Wall Relief Rosenthal x Versace, Medusa, White Porcelain, 1990s

Added to the archive

This object has found a new owner and is now part of The Collectionist archive.

A porcelain wall relief from the collaboration between Rosenthal and Versace, produced in the 1990s. The circular relief depicts the Medusa head, the central motif of the Italian fashion house's visual identity, surrounded by a Greek meander border. Executed in white, unglazed porcelain. The piece is in good condition with no damage.

Rosenthal and Versace began their collaboration in the early 1990s, producing a line of porcelain objects and tableware. Gianni Versace was personally involved in each collection during this period, until his death in 1997. The Medusa motif, which Versace drew from the classical Greek and Roman imagery he encountered growing up in southern Italy, has since become the house's most recognisable emblem. Pieces from the early Rosenthal x Versace collaboration, made while Gianni himself was still directing the lines, are increasingly difficult to find.

Curator's note

Rosenthal produced this relief during the period when Versace was still personally involved in each collection, before Gianni's death in 1997. Pieces from that collaboration are becoming increasingly scarce.
