Travel Guides and Brochures

Travel guides, city brochures, and tourist promotional print from the first half of the twentieth century. These objects fix a city or region at a single moment in time, often richer as a record through the advertisements of local hoteliers, garage owners, and couturiers than through the tourist text itself. The typography, illustrations, and photography follow the graphic conventions of the interwar period and the postwar years, placing the printed material in a recognisable visual tradition. The booklets and brochures were issued by tourist boards, local publishers, and urban trade associations, and circulated in hotel lobbies, kiosks, and bookshops.
