Vintage Samson Shag Tin - Lion & Circus - Theodorus Niemeyer (1970s)

A piece of Dutch tobacco history. This rectangular blue tin was the packaging for 50 grams of "Samson Special half-heavy rolling tobacco" from the well-known Groningen-based manufacturer Theodorus Niemeyer.

The lid features a magnificent lithograph with a circus theme: we see a lion jumping through a hoop with a pack of Samson in its mouth, while the ringmaster in red uniform looks on. The edges are decorated with stylized tobacco leaves and red Art Nouveau-style curls.

The tin has clearly been used and has scratches and wear marks around the edges and on the bottom (see photos). This gives the item that raw, industrial "man cave" look that many collectors seek.
