Black-and-white postcard of the Goldkaul in Luxembourg's Little Switzerland, published by Kunstverlag P.C. Schoren, Luxembourg, as number 46 of the Serie Müllertal. The composition shows a frontal view of the massive sandstone formation, flanked by slender birch trunks to the left and right that divide the image vertically. The layered rocks display the characteristic depositional bedding of Luxembourgish sandstone and are partly covered with ferns and moss. In the lower right a barely visible seated figure lends scale to the massif, with a wooden plank or small bench in front of them. The printed caption "Petite Suisse luxembourgeoise - Goldkaul" appears at the bottom. The card is in good condition.
The Goldkaul, literally "gold pit", is one of the named rock formations along Route 2 of the Mullerthal Trail between the Schiessendempel and Consdorf. Together with the neighbouring Goldfralee, Rammelay, Schelmelay and Eilebuerg, it forms a series of spectacular sandstone masses in which erosion has carved capricious shapes, sometimes comparable to enormous heads. The name probably refers to the warm, golden colour that Luxembourgish sandstone takes on under raking sunlight. The region has belonged to the UNESCO Global Geopark Mëllerdall since 2015. The publisher's line "Kunstverlag P.C. Schoren, Luxembourg" without the later "Rue Bourbon" addition places the card in the middle period of Schoren production, around 1910 to 1920.
