Antique Roman Missal 1920 – Large Liturgical Altar Book with Color Illustrations

Added to the archive

This object has found a new owner and is now part of The Collectionist archive.

Impressive and large Missale Romanum from 1920, published in Ratisbon (Regensburg) by Fridericus Pustet, the historical publisher of Catholic liturgical books for the Vatican. This missal contains the complete texts of the Roman Catholic Mass according to the tradition of the Council of Trent, with later revisions under Pope Pius X and Benedict XV.

The book is particularly richly decorated with color illustrations, decorative initials, and ornate liturgical ornaments. The full-page illustrations, such as the scene of the Last Supper, are printed in vivid colors and framed with medieval-inspired motifs, giving the book a strong ceremonial and art-historical character.

The binding is made of red leather with gold print and a central cross ornament. Its heavy construction and large dimensions indicate that this is an altar or church use book, intended for use during liturgy. The purple bookmark ribbons are still present.

Due to its size, decorative execution, and religious significance, this missal is both a historical liturgical document and an impressive decorative object for collectors of religious books, antiquarian works, or ecclesiastical art.

Condition: very good condition for its age, with minor signs of wear on the binding appropriate for church use.
