Rare tin from the famous cigar factory NV Karel I of HJ van Abbe, with branches in Eindhoven, Reusel and Maastricht.
The lid shows a colourful portrait of Charles I (Charles I of England) in Baroque style, surrounded by gold-coloured heraldry, flags and symbols of nobility.
The reverse shows a beautiful lithograph of the factory with the inscription “2500 workers”, an impressive detail that reflects the industrial heyday of the Dutch tobacco industry.
Inside, the original logo is still present: a large red “1” with the portrait and the text “Eénsmaer een Karel 1”.
