A floral still life by Daniël Been (1885-1967), executed in oil on canvas and signed lower left. The work shows a bouquet of flowers in soft pink and white tones, likely rhododendrons, set against a muted background on a dark red drapery. The composition is closed and balanced, with a clear focus on form and volume. The brushwork is visible and controlled, with attention to texture in the petals and foliage. The palette is deliberately limited, contributing to the calm construction of the picture plane.
The composition belongs to the tradition of the Dutch floral still life from the first half of the twentieth century, a genre that was then moving from academic realism towards a more personal and less rigid treatment of the subject. Been worked within that tradition with a restraint that is distinctly his own. The painting is stretched on a wooden frame and housed in a painted period ornament frame, with a red ground layer visible at points of wear. On the reverse is a label from Kunsthandel Gebroeders Koch in Rotterdam, documenting the historical sales context. The canvas is in good original condition, with light signs of age consistent with its history.
