Young Ilahja is plagued by terrible memories. As a child, she witnessed her family die in a sea of fire. Shortly afterwards, Thale was overrun by the armies of the cruel conqueror An-Rukhbar.
All human druids – that is, those who survived the attack – were walled in, as were the Mist Elves. But shortly before he breathed his last, the Druid of all Druids predicted with prophetic certainty the coming of a savior who will conquer the dark forces, who will once again offer Thale the prospect of peace and prosperity.
To prevent the prophecy from coming true, An-Rukhbar uses magic to make all future pregnancies impossible. A horrible fate awaits women who do give birth. To her horror, Ilahja discovers that she is pregnant, and she goes to great lengths to hide the first signs.
And so it happened that on a dark night and under miserable circumstances, Ilahja's child was born. It is a girl, Sunnivah, who is completely unaware of the difficult task that awaits her...
