A composite dog sculpture depicting a long-haired sheepdog in a proud, alert stance. The slender build, raised head and detailed coat texture suggest a collie or sheltie type. The coat is hand-painted in warm, natural tones with layered locks and subtle colour gradations. On the underside, finishing points are visible, characteristic of figurative animal sculptures from the second half of the twentieth century. The piece is solid and well balanced.
Decorative dog sculptures in composite were produced on a large scale in postwar Western Europe. The collie was a favoured model: a breed with a strong visual profile and clear cultural associations with loyalty and intelligence. The level of detail in this example, with its carefully worked coat and convincing posture, places it in the better segment of this production tradition.
