Devotional leaflet Saint Francis of Assisi - Giotto fresco reproduction, Basilica of Assisi

Folded devotional leaflet in English, published by the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi and printed by Tipografia Metastasio. The front shows a colour reproduction of the "Sermon to the Birds", the celebrated fresco attributed to Giotto di Bondone in the Upper Church of the Basilica of Assisi. The inner pages contain the so-called Prayer of Saint Francis ("Lord, make me an instrument of your peace") and a welcome address from the Conventual Franciscan Friars to visitors of the shrine. The back is damaged from tape removal, which has torn away part of the paper surface.

This type of card was distributed on-site to pilgrims and tourists, functioning both as a devotional object and as a memento of a visit to one of the principal Franciscan pilgrimage sites in Europe. The reference to the magazine "The Spirit of Assisi" suggests the card dates from the 1970s or 1980s.
