A ceramic figurine of a cockatoo, made by the Julius Griesbach factory in Cortendorf, Germany, and dating from the 1950s. The piece is finished in high-gloss glaze and depicts a cockatoo perched on a tree trunk with glazed green leaves. The impressed stamp with model number 3407 and the original "Cortendorf China Factory" export sticker are both still present. In original condition, undamaged.
Griesbach produced figurines from the 1950s until the factory's acquisition by Goebel in 1973, with a naturalistic precision that few contemporaries matched. Cortendorf has since faded gradually from collective memory, making pieces with the original export sticker and impressed stamp increasingly rare. This figurine has weathered the years exactly as it should: untouched.
