An early twentieth-century hand-painted bonbon dish by Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, fitted with a Dutch silver mount and hinged openwork handle. The dish is decorated in the traditional blue floral pattern and bears the Tichelaar Makkum cartouche mark; the underside carries a model number and painter's initials, confirming factory hand-painted production. The silver mount is hallmarked with the 834 standard, the small sword mark used from 1906 onwards, and the maker's mark J&S in a rectangular frame, attributed to the Schoonhoven firm Jansen & Schoonhoven.
The combination of Makkum earthenware and Schoonhoven silverwork is characteristic of Dutch luxury tableware from the late Jugendstil period. Both crafts were known for their precision and their fidelity to ornamental tradition, and in pieces like this they came together on the set tables of prosperous bourgeois households. The silver and earthenware are in good condition, with no damage.
