Smoking Accessories

Smoking accessories reflect a material culture that extended across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, from the smoking room to the salon. Pipes in briar and meerschaum, cigar boxes in leather or wood, ashtrays in glass and ceramic, table lighters in silver-plated metal or bakelite: objects made for daily use and designed accordingly. The rituals of smoking have passed; the objects have remained.
