A warm and carefully composed family portrait of a couple with two daughters, made in the famous studio of J. Langhans in Prague .
The composition—the father seated on the left, the mother central with her hand protectively on the child, and the eldest daughter standing on the right—evinces the balanced precision that characterized Langhans' style.

The soft background and the subtle contrasts between the dark velvet of the dresses and the light of the faces give the image a timeless serenity.
The card's characteristic green back , richly decorated with medals and imperial emblems, marks the work as originating from the Ku.K. Court Studio of Langhans — court photographer to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.

Technique: Albumen photo on cardboard ( cabinet card )
Dimensions: approx. 16.5 × 10.8 cm
Condition: Good; light surface discolouration and some traces consistent with age
Origin: Prague, Czech Republic

The Langhans firm (founded in 1870) was symbolic of the rise of photography as a bourgeois art form.
This portrait embodies the family life of the affluent middle class in Central Europe around 1900: modest, dignified, yet full of warmth.
The photo card is not only a document of a family, but also of an era in which identity was carefully depicted.
