Paradoxes of modernization 3rd edition is a book by Henk van der Loo published by Coutinho. ISBN 9789062830770

Modernization processes have been of decisive importance for today's society. Our way of thinking, acting and feeling is all about modernization. It is also not surprising that within the social sciences a lot of attention has traditionally been paid to the analysis of modernization processes. This book attempts to take stock of more than a century and a half of social-scientific thinking about modernization. This is done on the basis of a general action plan, in which modernization is examined from four different angles. The general action plan not only serves to promote the system, but also makes it clear that modernization processes are paradoxical in nature. Conflicting theoretical statements about people and society, this book argues, can often be traced back to insufficient recognition of the paradoxical nature of modernization.
