Description:
This graceful ceramic jar is shaped like a mythical phoenix bird, a symbol of rebirth, prosperity, and immortality in Asian, and particularly Chinese, culture. The piece is finished in a glossy cream and pink glaze, with soft, flowing hues elegantly blending along the feathers, neck, and tail.
The sculpture displays refined details: a stylized beak with a rounded opening (suitable as a pouring spout), decorative curls in the mane, fine scaled wing structure, and a fanned tail. The whole rests on an integrated base, giving the jar a stable and sculptural appearance.
Although this Phoenix jar is based on classical forms from the Song and Yuan dynasties, it is a decorative reproduction from the 20th century , intended as an artistic showpiece, not a utilitarian object. The soft pink hues suggest a glazing technique inspired by sang-de-boeuf and other reduction glazes popularized by Chinese and Japanese ceramicists in the 20th century.
A striking, sculptural object that plays a strong decorative role in both modern and classic interiors.
