This is no ordinary portrait; it's a window into the fashionable city of The Hague around the turn of the century. This striking portrait of a young girl was created by the renowned court photographer Adolphe Zimmermans (1858–1922).

Zimmermans, whose studio was located at De Riemerstraat 21 in The Hague, was the favorite photographer of the Dutch elite and the Royal Family. His craftsmanship was so unparalleled that, from 1892 onward, he was awarded the title of purveyor to the royal household of Queen Regent Emma. He is known, among other things, for his iconic portraits of Princess Wilhelmina, which were even used for national postage stamps.
